Easy Peasy Crochet Washcloth
Here's an easy pattern for a handmade crochet washcloth. Great for beginners, doesn't use much yarn, and you can whip it up in a little over an hour.
- Size I Crochet hook (5.5 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
- cotton yarn (because wool washcloths don't wash up nicely).
- darning needle
Gauge: 4 stitches per inch but gauge is not critical for this pattern.
Make slip knot on hook and chain 30. This number of chains will produce an 8x8 inch cloth. Feel free to increase the number of starting chains to increase the size of your cloth.
At the end of the 30th chain, chain one and turn work.
Single crochet in the second chain from the hook.
Continue to single crochet across the row. At the end of the row, chain one and turn the work.
Again single crochet in the second chain from the hook.
Continue until the piece is square.
To make a nice finished edge, at the end of the final row, single crochet 3 in the corner stitch.
Go all around the work in single crochet to finish the edges. Do three single crochet in each corner.
When you get to the end, bind off and weave in ends.
